Employee Spotlight: Kelsey Parsons, Insurance Product Innovations Manager

Welcome to the Boost Employee Spotlight! Each month, we feature a different member of the Boost team and their story. This month, meet Kelsey Parsons, Insurance Product Innovations Manager.

What is your role at Boost? What does your typical work week look like?

I am the Insurance Product Innovation Manager here at Boost, and my role is to support the development and ongoing management of Boost's white label insurance products. My typical week involves me (trying) to split my time between those two areas: Development and management. I'm currently working on the development of two new products for Boost that are at different stages of development. Development often involves competitor research, reviewing and drafting forms with our Legal team, and working cross-functionally to develop operational workflows and tech configurations of different aspects of the insurance product.

For the product management portion of my role, I spend time reviewing the growth and performance of our insurance products at a granular level to understand where our products are successful, the impacts of changes we make, and if there are segments we may want to write less of. I also work to understand and plan out any future product changes we want to make to help make our products the best in class.

How did you get started working in insurance?

I got started in insurance as a risk management intern at The Hartford during college. As a finance major, I was always more drawn to insurance than other finance careers because it felt more tangible to me. I worked at The Hartford in the Product Management Leadership Development Program for three years, working in both Personal Lines and Commercial Lines roles.

When I first came to Boost 2.5 years ago, I thought I wanted to branch out a bit, so I started on our Growth team as a Business Development Analyst. However, my interest has always lain with the insurance products themselves, so I made my way back to an insurance product role at the beginning of 2021.

What are some of the highlights of your time at Boost?

When I started at Boost, the company was still in its early stages. Watching this company almost quadruple our employees over the past two years has been incredible. We have refined so many aspects of how we work, added some amazing subject matter experts to the team, and have seen so much productivity and revenue growth because of it. I am constantly amazed. Being a part of this company, seeing how hard people have worked over these past 2.5 years, and seeing the fruits of our labor being realized makes me so happy.

What’s one thing you’re excited to work on/ hope to accomplish at Boost?

I have spent a good amount of time over the past year working on a new insurance product that I am very excited to bring to the market this year! Knowing there are businesses out there that will have insurance policies that I helped create is very exciting and humbling to think about.

What is your favorite thing about your role?

My favorite thing about working in insurance is that, at the end of the day, we are building products that help people and businesses in their times of need. I think that many people have a negative view of insurance because they only utilize it in hard times like after a fire, car accident, or theft. But I love that through my role, I can help change that perspective and show people the necessity and value of insurance. The insurance products I help create or expand have tangible impacts on people's lives and provide financial support for large, unexpected expenses. I love my role because I get to work hands-on to shape these products and I try to always keep that end policyholder in mind.
